Immigration has long been a part of the United States of America’s history. There have been several spikes in migration to the U.S. over time due to many different circumstances. One prominent circumstance is that most of the migrants are in search of a better life in the United States. On the other hand, immigration can present quite a few problems for the U.S. This can make immigration policy very complex and hard to pass in congress. Immigration can be broken down and discussed in two ways: pros and cons. The pros of immigration are numerous and easy to find. One benefit of immigration is in the economy. Immigrants are a huge part of the workforce and contribute greatly to the economy and GDP. Also, some immigrants are even willing to do the “dirty” jobs that most Americans aren’t willing to do. Another benefit of immigration is the cultural impact. Immigrants bring their way of life into the States and spread it into the food, music, clothing, etc. This impact can be seen all over major cities. One such con of immigration to the United States is that illegal immigrants can take away jobs from citizens of the U.S. This can lead to an increase in unemployment around the nation. Another downside to immigration is that Illegal immigration cost federal and local taxpayers $113 billion every year. This amount of money is a big burden on the American people from people who aren’t even legally in the U.S. According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, I.C.E., as many as 700,000 to 1,000,000 illegal immigrants come into the United States each year. These people compete against citizens for jobs and housing. Another con of immigration to the U.S. is for the countries that migrants emigrate from. These countries can experience brain drain. This means that highly trained and smart people emigrate to a new country and deprive the old country of their skills and
