Nuclear Waste on our mother Earth has been a big issue since the start of nuclear production. We have lived several years with this radioactive waste traveling through our soils and farms causing damage to Earth’s nature. Nuclear wastes are normally classified as low, medium or high-level, according to the amount and types of radioactivity they contain. The high-level waste produced by nuclear reactors is the longest lasting contamination risk of a nuclear power plant. How and where do we control this issue and what is its main problem to the soils and agricultural environment. All of the options for handling nuclear waste have potentially large environmental and health impacts. They also tested 10,000 other synthetic compounds to try to find a cure to this damaged good. The effects of each compound were quantified with a scoring scale. After several screenings, they had found five compounds that made plants highly tolerant to cesium. When they found that Arabidopsis was grown in cesium-containing liquid media with CsTolen A, more cesium remained in the liquid medium and much less was found in the plants. Overall the CsTolen A just acted as a preventative solution for the cesium to not travel in the roots of the plants. Meaning that when plants were germinated and grown in cesium-contaminated soil, applying CsTolen A significantly reduced the amount of cesium absorption and resulted in greater plant growth.
