In every state under the American flag off road vehicles (ORV’s) are taken through dirt, sand, clay, silt, mud, and rocks every single day whether it be legal or not. Off road vehicles are vehicles specifically designed to thrive in rough, unrefined terrain whether it be at off road racing, rock crawling, or just a trail ride to get their tires dirty, over time it has become an increasingly popular recreational sport and activity. Illegal off-roading occurs as a result of not having enough legal areas to pursue it at. Although there are plenty of off-road parks it seems that there are too few to sustain people’s desires to go explore. Weather these people are passionate about hiking, mountain biking or off-roading among various other recreational activities, they all share a love for the outdoors, and with fewer places to pursue their passion it can drive some individuals to find adventure in nature where ever they can. Although there are lots of off-road parks often they are very far away and individuals would have to make plans for a several days long trips to make it to them with enough time to enjoy their passion. This is the point where people who love off-roading begin to partake in illegal off-roading closer to home without realizing the negative effect it can have on the environment. When trails are made without taking into account where they are placed the soil can suffer from severe erosion and degradation, also it can be harmful to animal and plant life. Although off-roading may be fun, it seems that the benefits are nowhere near as prominent as the negatives.
