“The mission of the Houston Police Departments duty is to enhance the life in the city of Houston by working cooperatively with the public and within the framework of the U.S. Constitution to enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce fear and provide for a safe environment” (“Police Department Mission Statement”). Police cars can be easily seen in your area due to the obvious logo across both sides in bold letters reading the words police (Figure1). However, the Houston police department has other patrol vehicles that are unmarked. These unmarked vehicles appear to just be a regular everyday normal vehicle. Although these vehicles might look normal they possess the same authority of a regular police car. They are classified as unmarked because these vehicles do not have visible flashing lights and markings identifying the vehicle as a police car (Figure 2). The purpose of unmarked police vehicles is to catch civilians committing violations while they are unaware. However, these unmarked vehicles have cause serious issues. These issues have been caused by criminals impersonating police officers in unmarked cars. Removal of undercover or keep undercover cop cars , this issue possesses pros and cons but the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Undercover patrol vehicles over the past years have definitely caused serious issues in the Pasadena, Texas community. Innocent civilians have been harassed, sexually assaulted and faced fear of abduction. It is unfortunate that these incidents took place and have permanently impacted these victims’ lives. The removal of undercover patrol cars would turn things around for the better in the community. The removal would cause civilians to become less apprehensive during routine stops and once again feel safe and protected by police
