Privatized prisons have been an issue in the U.S since 1983 when the first privatized prison in the U.S was created. Hamilton County in Tennessee has signed a contract with the Corrections Corporation of America (Prisoning, Privatization, and Public Values, 2002). As time went on, the privatized prison industry grew and so did issues with our prison systems. Should prisons be privatized? No, privatized prisons should be removed from the U.S. due to increasing recidivism rates, inadequate conditions for residents which lead to poor mental health and physical health, and how they are unethical as a forprofit, which causes corruption in the court system. …show more content…
