At the Civil War’s end current president Abraham Lincoln addressed the broken nation as a beacon of hope and reconciliation. However, after his assassination Andrew Johnson became president; Where Lincoln wanted for a peaceful and brotherly reconciliation Johnson though the south unworthy of the mercy the deceased president had extended to them.
