In todays current society, the Federal Constitution provides that the times, places, and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives is prescribed in each state by the state legislature. Congress is allowed to grant power by holding elections, which is where power is matched, by the state to control over the election process for state offices. Overall, state qualifications to vote are set by the states, subject to certain restrictions in the Constitution and its Amendments and the authority of the federal government in enforcing the Fifteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause. The authority has limits based in the Constitution and its Amendments. States may not use certain factors in determining qualification. Factors such …show more content…
It has allowed people to go and vote and not have to worry about voter fraud. According to the “Students Challenge Texas Voter ID Law in Court” article, 83% of the registered voters in Texas have agreed and supported this law (Rhodan M). Although the law has been in full motion for a couple years, I believe that the voter turnout will stay below the average number and will continue to for as long as the law stays in place. The reason I believe this will happen is because voters want to just go in and vote and then leave. Most people will say that there is, in short, absolutely no evidence that we have a problem that need’s solving, and yet here we have the Republican Party, the party that purports to just hate bureaucracy and intrusive big government and wasteful spending demanding that we spend tens of millions expanding the bureaucratic burden on ordinary citizens, taking down names and addresses all to solve a problem that doesn’t exist. Anyone who looks that that anomaly is compelled to conclude that there is another agenda. And to determine what that agenda might be, one need only look at which part of the electorate is most likely to find these laws sufficiently burdensome to just take a pass on exercising their fundamental right to vote. The entire Republican argument is transparently perpetual. They get away with it because or media culture insists on treating Republican arguments that …show more content…
My feeling is that if Democrats would make it a priority to organize massive voter registration drives by having as incentives block parties with free food and such buses to the polls and financial aid to purchase the necessary documents needed to get the I.D itself, people would vastly outnumber the very committed Republicans who vote in greater percentages. The Republicans totally rely on Democrats to vote and that is what usually happens (Rhodan M). Once we get control of every state legislature, we can change the rules to suite the state and remove those I.D laws and increase the number of voting. So far the law has been in effect for quite some time. According to the “Texas Secretary of State”, since the voter law came into place, there has been a decrease in voters. In 2008, the presidential election saw around 8 million voters in Texas come and cast a vote. As of 2012, the number decreased to around 7 million (TX Senate). Now it may not seem like that’s a lot but for something like an election, it could mean the difference of winning by a landslide or just a few
