This research paper was an assignment from my Intro to Criminal Justice class during my freshmen year of college, where we were given the task of discovering a topic based on the Criminal Justice system and the issues within that Justice system. The purpose of this paper was to investigate all of the controversial issues behind the three major components that make up of the Criminal Justice system. In addition, to implementing my analysis and constructive solutions for the dysfunctional and problematic system that may help improve and reform the system. Briefly, social psychology is basically understanding an individual's behavior through social context (McLeod, 2007). In other words, social psychology is formed because psychology is the scientific study of a human’s mind and their functions which results to affect their behavior. Coupled with, sociology focusing on the functioning of human society. As a result, these two components relate because they both examine individuals behavior in a social context. In my paper, I could have made a connection between social psychology theory and how it positively apply to the Criminal Justice system to deter crime. For instance, I could have discussed and explained how one of the main technique and method the Criminal Justice system uses is the social psychology theory to examine offenders through mental health evaluations, require treatment, programs, and punishment to help limit their deviant acts, uses theories and personal background information such as employment history, education, childhood, previous criminal history, and other major factors to understand and determine why offenders commit the crimes that they do. Furthermore, the Criminal Justice system uses the social psychology theory to help assist with how they figure out what causes crime by focusing on society such as the environment and people in it. For example, poverty plus low socioeconomic status causes crime or violence plus low socioeconomic can cause crime.
