There are several challenges associated to their interaction. Some of which include: competition in each priorities as well as mandate in both sectors, also differences in targets such as individuals versus populations, also the approach used in cultural dominance of the curative becomes another factor that affects the links between them. More over, expectations from the public which promotes investments in a more specialized curative services at the expense of a more basic preventive services. Also counts as a challenge to communication. Similarly, the public health system and healthcare delivery system in general may have their challenges. The healthcare sector in the U.S entails with an array of hospitals, clinicians, other health providers, buyers of healthcare services, insurance plans and what have you. However, they all operate in a number of configurations of groups, networks as well as independent practices. This also means that, some of the above-mentioned are based in the public and private health sector as in for profit or non-profit entities. Although, these various individuals and organizations are generally referred to as ‘’the healthcare delivery system’’ (Institute of Medicine, 2003), the phrase itself suggests that, there should be an order of integration and accountability in both concept (Reinhardt, 2002). That means collaboration, system planning and communication among these various entities is limited, thus becomes incidental to their operations.
