One cannot ignore the command here. Paul is very clear that women should not exercise authority over men. The word authentein is only used once here in the entire New Testament and it is literally translated “to give orders; to exercise authority.” It is argumentative, to say the least, that one could possibly attempt to interpret this word in any other way. Thus, it is without a doubt that Paul prohibits women to have any sort of authority over men in the church setting. Furthermore, women are to be submissive their husbands and those in place of authority in the church (1 Tim. 2:11;1 Cor. 14:34b; Eph. 5:22).
