Rwanda Genocide In the Rwanda genocide more than one million people are estimated to have perished and an estimated 150,000 to 250,000 women were also raped. Genocide is defined as the intentional destruction of a specific group of people. The Rwandan genocide was a genocide against the Tutsis. During this time, the Tutsi minority was attacked by Hutu militias. In the Rwandan genocide, 500,000 people were killed in the small Central African country of Rwanda. Others were raped, beaten and tortured. A favoritism on the minority Tutsi created an ongoing and deeper tension between the Hutus and Tutsi. Favoritism towards the Tutsis divided them because they were divided by their ethnicity and that is why the Tutsis and the Hutus had tensions between them due to their differences in advantages that were given.
