The Raven was not only a story about Poe's early childhood but was also how poetry had affected his life. Poe wrote The Raven not just to start writing but to show how his life originally started out hard and then he never gave up and now he has become a successful poet. Edgar's parents had died when he was at a early age and he had been adopted by a really nice adoptive mom but his adoptive dad was really mean and was a drunk. His adoptive parents were not any better then the way his real parents were.
“The Raven” was written by Edgar Allan Poe. Poe is a brilliant writer when it comes to poems and short stories. The poem is so well known because of how dark and brooding he was. It expresses the pain of losing a loved one which never goes away. “The Raven” is more depressing than it is frightening.
In this age where we swipe away, new music stars are born every minute and fame is something that could last for a mere week, one-hit wonders have become common and part of daily life. In 1845, Poe had some sort of one-hit wonder with The Raven. As the Poe Museum site (2015) tells his story, Poe finally gained a lot of attention with his publication of The Raven, after having lived a life of poverty where at one point he even had to burn down is furniture for some warmth. Yet his venture failed, the health of his wife was deteriorating and as with every famous person there were rumours right around the corner. He left New York in 1846 and in the next three year his wife died, his amorous escapades were failures and soon death came knocking.
In The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, the author believes that not being able to properly grieve causes extreme pain because it can lead to sudden outbursts of anger and unnecessary predicaments with others as it relates to the narrator’s internal and external conflict by verbally attacking the Raven randomly as well as wanting the ominous bird to leave. For instance, the narrator explains that the Raven was sent by angels and snaps into a state of fury. “ ‘Prophet!’ said I, ‘thing of evil! prophet still, if bird or devil! Whether Tempter sent.”
The amount of feeling I felt while reading “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe is like the colors of the rainbow, there are just so much feelings like there are so much colors. There's a lot of mixed feelings that this poem leaves with the reader feeling like sadness, depressing, and confused. Disturbing is the feeling that this poem leaves with the reader and here are three reasons to support that how the plot/action is disturbing,how the characters are disturbing, and how the theme is disturbing. To start of with, The plot/action is really the main thing that makes the reader feel disturbed. The text makes the reader experience this weird feeling by the fact that the Raven can speak.

The poem is famous for its use of dark imagery and its mysterious and pessimistic tone. The main theme of the poem is mortality and the inevitability of death. The narrator's despair over the death of his beloved Lenore is a metaphor for the inevitability of death and the futility of attempting to escape it. The raven's ominous presence and the repeated word "Nevermore" serve as a reminder of the finality of death and the narrator's mortality.
But in the poem "The Raven," which is also about the death of a loved person, the narrator behaves differently. The death of a loved one in "The Raven" is even more painful and even terrifying. Similarly, the poem "The Raven" also uses repetitive literary devices, and the words "raven", "nevermore", and "sad" appear repeatedly throughout the poem. And these repetitive words like what Christine says in her analysis of this poem all “add to the feeling of despondency in the poem”. The raven's appearance in mythologies around the world have lent to reputations and some characteristics that can still be seen and heard in the present. Their individual symbolism and ornithology from antiquity can also be seen in vintage and modern literature that further feeds to public opinion, for the most part, that these creatures are of a dark and mysterious or a beacon of light origin. In most all myths and pantheons the appearance of ravens on battlefields among fallen warriors have led to some negative connotations of it and the implication of death and the afterlife. Also, since ravens can be trained to speak, this ability allows ravens the reputation of being the ultimate oracle. "

Whereas William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s criticism functions as one of the references in prompting praiseworthy works, Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven is a modified product of rebuttal in a manner that it does not necessarily conform on the notions of the traditional Romantic attitude, given that its basis for experience does not imitate the life of a common man, and the usage of suspension of disbelief is maximized to the extent of dangerous imagination. Despite these conflicting ideas, Poe’s The Raven still manages to take resemblance from its precursors, like as prioritizing the poet over the work itself, preoccupation towards imagination, quality of achieving unity of effect, and as such.
“The Raven” talks about a man who lost the love of his life Lenore, as he tries to deal with the loss, a raven comes to visit and puts the poor man into a mental state with “Nevermore”. The characters in “The Raven” are the speaker and the bird, takes place in a chamber of a house at midnight, December. “The Raven” settles on the chamber door, and the speaker asks for its name. Amazingly enough the raven answers back with a single word “Nevermore”. The man asks more and more questions, but the only word that comes from the raven’s beak is “Nevermore”, slowly the speaker asks the raven more painful and personal questions about Lenore, but the raven answers with “Nevermore” leaving the poor speaker to lose his sanity.
He shows he is very lonely. When the author uses, "bleak," "dying," and "ghost" When he addresses the raven with many word choices it becomes more intense and extreme as the mood darkens to reflect of the misery of the speaker. Poe's metaphors and word choice help set the mood of the poem. "The Raven" best reflects on Edgar Allen Poe's sense of melancholy and gloominess. The setting, the bird and his word choice illustrate the darkness and the ominous mood.
The setting of the poem is the dream and the time duration could be the stormy night or sunny morning time. The location of this poem he considers imaginary utopia as a comfort place that gives him the power to escape the reality and he never wanted them to end because when he awoke from his dream he would have to confront the misery of the world and its surroundings.
