The Raven was not only a story about Poe's early childhood but was also how poetry had affected his life. Poe wrote The Raven not just to start writing but to show how his life originally started out hard and then he never gave up and now he has become a successful poet. Edgar's parents had died when he was at a early age and he had been adopted by a really nice adoptive mom but his adoptive dad was really mean and was a drunk. His adoptive parents were not any better then the way his real parents were. His real parents had hurt him and made him not be able to pursue his dream they had hurt him by hitting him and also not believing in him. Poe's parents were not wanting him to get a job as a poet but then his parents died and he was adopted. At least that is what they thought they were doing. Once his parents passed his adoptive mother believed in him and his dream which was for him to become a author of writing poems. Edgar had always thought that drinking was not good but then he got to realize that he thought he needed it and did not want to quit not even for his dream job. Edgar has always dreamed about being a poet but his mother did not believe in him which discouraged him which made him not think that it was a good idea. Edgar finally sobered up and then he started a story called The Raven, This story had helped him get his story out and he started to pay more attention to poetry and not drinking.
