Macbeth the play is believed to have been written in 1606; the play being a historical tragedy inspired after the real Macbeth. Macbeth was the king of Scotland, 1040-1057. The play contains names of real people, although loosely based on the real Macbeth story. The play is set in Scotland to please King James I, honouring the kings original background, King James VI of Scotland.
During the 11th century in Scotland, when the play is set, Macbeth was king of Scotland. The Gaelic culture and language was becoming more prominent, it is believed Macbeth was one of the last Celtic kings. In Celtic history it is rather difficult to define and separate myth from reality, there was no written history but rather laws, etc were passed down generations
