'The Red Queen': An Analysis

“The words force themselves past my lips, though they come out as barely a whisper. ‘I love you’” This is the very first time Mare Barrow is speaking her love instead of only showing it. Mare Barrow is the main character in the book the Red Queen, by Victoria Aveyard. This book is about an unreal world of people divided by silver and red blood. Where Mare, a Red, must live along Silvers to end a war, or is she starting it. As I read this book I realized that the reason for Mare’s actions were love, for family and friends. I believe that love will always lead the way, through words and actions. However, I believe love is truly shown as meaningful through our actions and is more than only saying “I love you.”

Many people say that the saying “love at first sight” isn’t real and that love comes after people hate. I believe, that in my book it is true that love doesn’t happen at first sight and comes after a rough start. In the very start of my book Mare only truly feels love toward very few people, and only helps the ones dear to her heart. In the Red Queen my author, Victoria Aveyard, uses the simile, “We will rise up, Red as the dawn” all throughout her book. Victoria uses this simile as a symbol of the Scarlet Guard and as the book develops Mare sees this more and more of this symbol. This simile becomes more meaningful as the book continues and starts to represent more than only the Scarlet Guard,but instead the people that the Guard is fighting for. The simile/symbol is to show all the people, Reds overall, that the Guard is fighting for their happiness and freedom out of love. The Guard will rise up and defeat the segregation, and there will be no hatred between Reds and Silvers only love and
