Intro: The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a play about the Salem Witchcraft. The Crucible takes place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. Abigail accuses several local women of witchcraft. A group of teenage girls were found dancing in the woods by the Parris, Betty father. Knowing that the punishment for their behavior will be severe, the girls claim that they were possessed by the spirits. Betty ends up being in a coma and there is no explanation to why. Reading act one, Abigail is most responsible for causing all of the witchcraft.

Claim: Abigail is to be held responsible for alarming Salem about witchcraft. Arthur Miller describes Abigail as a careless person and would do anything to protect herself. “Mrs. Putnam: Tituba knows how to speak to the dead”. (Miller 1095) Tituba knows how to deal with witchcraft. Abigail begged for her help to do the witchcraft in the woods. She continued to lie about what happened to Betty until Hale gets Tituba to confess to what happened in the woods. She confessed that she was involved with witchcraft. In order for Tituba to get attention off herself and get praised, she accuses others of being involved.

Rebuttal: However, Abigail is more responsible than Tituba. Tituba how no bad intentions, she was just doing what Abigail wanted her to do. Abigail was the originator in the witchcraft. She wanted to do this in order to get back at Proctor for being with Elizabeth instead of her. Abigail is jealous of the whole situation and is trying to find a way to harm Elizabeth by any harms. In order for Abigail to get her revenge she drinks chicken blood but it ends up only hurting
