In the novel, 1984, by George Orwell, the characters are impacted greatly by their environment. Orwell created a world in which a political party, Big Brother, controls all people and dictates how a person thinks and acts. The setting/s are meant to oppress the people of Oceania and represent the absolute power Big Brother has. The biggest setting of 1984, that contributes to all characters big and small is the country in which they live in, Oceania.
