In the Great War, countries like Germany were constantly developing and progressing their weaponry and warfare, making it necessary for countries like Canada to do the same. For example, in 1915 near Ypres, the first triumphant chemical weapon attack occurred. With the success of German chlorine gas attacks, Allied countries, such as Canada, decided it necessary to retaliate with the same weaponry.
