Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.” This powerful quote by Pastor Martin Niemöller describes perfectly how racism is well alive in America today. In a recent Pew poll, more than fifty percent of Americans believed that racism had been worse than in the past twenty years. In fact, this has become such a big issue nowadays that cities such as Ferguson, Detroit and the areas around the Rust Belt are constantly making top headlines around the world. Minorities are now the ones who are saying racist slurs towards Whites. Whites are now underrepresented in universities, where Affirmative Action increases the chances of admission for minorities. One of the most famous supreme court cases that dealt with this issue was Fisher v The University of Texas, where the courts upheld Affirmative Action. Once, Whites were considered ‘priviliged, rich’ individuals, but are we going to refuse something to them, base on something as permanent as race. No one chooses their race, they are simply born who they are. Even worse, minorities have put down other minorities as well. While both cultures suffered roughly the same, both still find themselves battling for a superiority within themselves. Light and dark skinned Hispanics have been very prejudice against each other, even though they share the same culture and background. Instead of being respectful, we choose to form a caste system based on race, where Whites are now in the bottom and minorities compete for the top
