At the end of 2013 there were 16.7 million refugees worldwide. Refugees are everyday people that are forced to flee their home because of circumstances out of their control that jeopardizes their lives. Once the refugees flee, they may have to leave family, friends, or valuables that might have been in their family forever. In the novel Inside out and Back Again, Ha and her family are forced to flee Saigon because their safety is threatened living there. Many of the refugees around the world have to deal with the social discrimination once they flee because they are different. It takes time for the refugee to get comfortable with their new surroundings and to have more confidence.
