A long time ago, Rome ruled the world. The Roman Empire started in 27 BC until 285/395 AD, the worlds longest-lasting empire. The first emperor of Rome was Augustus following the steps of his uncle and adopted father Julius Caesar. The Empire spread over parts of Europe, Asia & Africa, 55 countries today. Rome was the home of 56,800,000.

The people of Rome spoke mostly Latin and Greek. Life in Rome depended on a persons social ranking. Rich Romans lived a beautiful life, they had lovely houses with fancy furniture and servants.
