The European and Pacific Theatre There were many battles in World War II, all of them being important and having different outcomes. Two main theaters we are focusing on are going to be the European Theatre where the Invasion of Normandy took place, along with the Pacific Theatre where the Attack on Pearl Harbor occurred. Both events had major impacts on the outcome of World War II, along with all the other battles we encountered. If ether of these battles turned out differently, America may not have become the amazing beautiful place it is today. The battle of Pearl Harbor occurred early morning in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 7, 1941.
America has been influenced by many people, inventions, and cultural phenomenons since it’s confederation in 1776. Phineas T. Barnum has influenced much of mass-entertainment since coming to America in 1834 at age sixteen (Harris 13), he has vastly changed what it means to promote and entertain in American Culture. His knowledge of what people want and how to make people think they want what he had, was amazing. He constantly fooled people and had a way of making the customers come back. James Cook argues that Barnum’s fascination with the entertainment business began in July 1835 while reading a newspaper article about Joice Heth, a one-hundred sixty-one year old maid of General Augustine Washington and nanny of later President George Washington.
Still, it appears to be clear to me that today 's Americans commit additional time, cash and vitality in quest for insignificant popular culture than any time in recent memory. Whole TV stations are dedicated to one of my most loved inconsistent expressions, diversion news. A word from a talk show host can and inspires a large number of individuals to purchase a book that the greater part of them presumably will never read. Genuine magazines battle to discover new perusers, however magazines gave to the lives of motion picture stars make their owners rich, if not well known. Furthermore, obviously, there is this business of what makes an American Idol.
The Greeks were the first to introduce the concept of theater. As a matter of fact, one performer, Thespis, created the idea of a chorus, which was a group of people that expressed opinions, gave advice, and had the author’s point of view. The chorus would be the equivalent to the “score” in modern theater. The International Thespian Society, an organization formed to honor student’s success in the theater, was named after Thespis. In Greek theater, the place that the actors performed was called the “paraskene,” while in modern theater it is called the stage.
1.What do the types of entertainment say about Roman Society? The majority of entertainment in Roman Society had a common trait, and that was violence. Most of their entertainment included fighting, fighting to the death and others involved sacrifices. This shows the Roman’s to be excessively violent and their ability to remove their morals for the purpose of entertainment.
Audiences are limited to what is offered but the array of options offered depends on what has been previously accepted by audiences. Films began to resemble American desires, just as “American desires reflected films”, making it close to impossible to acknowledge the power of Hollywood during the 1930’s. Despite the variety of genres, depression films assumed responsibility of restoring American values such as “individualism, classlessness and progress”. Filmmakers realized the need to stay within the realm of reality, not venturing too far out, for this is one of the reasons American audiences chose movies as entertainment. Without the connection between audiences and the characters and plot lines, Americans would have found entertainment elsewhere.
Role of Spectacle in Roman Culture Spectacles governed the way of life in the Roman culture in many ways. The use of spectacles in the Roman culture was widespread, especially during the performance of blood sports, such as the gladiatorial battles. The spectacle was an essential element in the amphitheatre games, which featured wild animal hunts in the morning, executions at noon, and the gladiatorial games in the evening. In this paper, I will examine the role of spectacles in the Roman culture, where the theme of violence and death will be featured. Predominantly, spectacles were used for entertainment reasons, to punish miscreants, serving as an example to the citizens, promoting interaction between the people of Rome and the rulers, and providing food for the ancient society.
B. The art of mime and pantomime became popular in the 1st century BC. Actors, men and woman alike, would mime their roles to the accompaniment of singing, dancing, and other acts of the sort. The implementation of woman was hugely successful at first, but eventually caused performances to degrade into vulgar and tasteless spectacles. C. Greek New Comedy was introduced to Roman translation in 240 BC.
Paragraph #1: One of the many objects and/or events that come to mind when I think of America is the entertainment industry. Nowadays, everyone looks up to celebrities who are considered as the ideal people. They have gotten fame from their career of being actors, singers, dancers, and their appearance. Many people have been able to watch actors perform in movies such as the Hunger Gamers, Avatar, and many other movies. Entertainment, which includes movies, has become very well known in the whole country and the world.

Plays in Ancient Greece were shown in theaters. The actors performing in the plays wore masks that were stylized and costumes. Some playwrights consisted of comedy, drama, and tragedy. Comedies back then usually made fun of people or their customs. They also liked to make fun of their own society like we do today in the political cartoons we see in the newspaper (120).
From Colonial Williamsburg Theatre to Broadway, theatre is ever-changing. The differences in each era of theatre are vast; the costumes, staging, acting techniques, and audiences all vary drastically from each other. The major eras and genres of American theatre include the colonial era, the Post-Revolution era, the Civil War era, Broadway, and Post-Modern—all with unique and varying aspects to them. Although the first permanent English settlement occurred at Jamestown, Virginia in 1607, according to Richard Hornby’s article The Crisis in the American History, the entire 17th century passed with no mention of theatrical productions or performances in the Colonies (Hornby).
Greek and Roman theatre set the tone in writing and acting for the rest of history. It can not be said enough how underrated these buildings are when it comes to the advancement of society. Theatre has always been an art of expression and these two nations realized that early on. Creating these theatres has helped bring classic tales of tragedy and heroism to the eyes and ears of many individuals. The world will always be thankful to the Greeks for being the forefathers of the theatre.
