The Russian revolution started in 1917 during World War One. The people of Russia had many hardships economically, emotionally, and physically. The war had killed more people from their nation than any other before that time, they had to work long physical hours during the day, and the economy was suffering due to the war. Just as the people of Russia were suffering, the animals on Mr. Jones farm, in Animal Farm were suffering too. Their lives were “miserable, laborious, and short. [they] are born, […] given just so much food as will keep the breath in [their] bodies, […] forced to work […] slaughtered” (5). They were underfed and so they broke into the feed house and took the food. When the “authorities” came they were so fed up that they ran them off their own property and started their own “government.” These two different scenes portray the same message, when under persecution the persecuted will try their hardest to get what they think is correct, even if they suffer substantially worse in the act of getting what they want. This has happened in history many times before and after the Russian revolution such as the founding of the United States when the British colonies rebelled against Britain for what they thought was correct, or the rebellious civil rights act when protestors refused to do what was the law, but did what they saw as equal. In Animal Farm, the animals did what they saw as important, or correct, and went against the farmers, even though in the moment they suffered. This is also what happened in the Russian Revolution, the rebels fought the government, and many were injured and killed, but they endured and eventually conquered the government. The incident in the novel is very close to what happened in the actual Russian
