Oedipus hears at a young age that his destiny is to murder his father and lie with his mother. To prevent this, he runs away from the people who he thinks are his parents and ends up killing his real dad, King Laius, and marrying his real mom, Jocasta, Queen of Thebes. A disease spreads throughout the city and the
God says it will be resolved only when the people of Thebes find Laius’ murderer and expel him. So, the King searches for this Mystery Man and eventually comes to the conclusion that he is the criminal he has been looking for. By the time he figures this out, Jocasta has hanged herself. Upon seeing this, Oedipus stabs his eyes out with the broaches from Jocasta’s robe. In the end, a prophet’s prediction has come true: Oedipus
