Further analysis of the sequence brings to question what the meaning behind the green light is, what is its significance? While I believe the theory that the green light is representative of Madeline’s resurrection from the dead, it also believes it bears more significance than that. The green light which is cast on both Judy/ Madeline and Scottie throughout the sequence could also be a reflection of sickness of jealousy. The relationship between Judy and Scottie is not a healthy one, perhaps Judy is jealous of herself? Jealous of the attention she gets from Scottie when she pretends to be Madeline, rather than getting his love and attention by just being herself.

Novak (mentioned above), she explains that Hitchcock would get angry with the hair and makeup department if they did not get Kim Novak’s hair correct, stipulating that “the bun had been twisted wrong.” The alinement between Scottie and Hitchcock present within the film of ‘Vertigo’ may explain why Novak was the best choice, even if she was not the first, to play the Madeline/ Judy character combination.
Novak had the experience, as a woman seeking to work in the Hollywood scene she had to allow her image to be changed, moulded and constructed by men (much like Madeline) and while it is her character saying the line "If I Let You Change Me, Will That Do It?", I do also believe it is an accurate portrayal of Kim Novak, at the time. After all, who would give it the chance to feel loved? Even when Scottie degrades her by putting his own needs and wants before her, by saying “How can your hair colour possible matter to you?” she is still willing to give up what in essence makes her Judy. Simply put, Kim Novak just like Judy, is a woman playing the role of ‘Hollywood Star’ and is loved for her star and public image, while the real person behind the ‘mask,’ Marilyn Pauline Novak is being hidden away, just like
