Many individuals throughout society frequently find themselves on a quest to learn who they really are. While there are several ways to discover one's own meaning, spending time alone is the most typical and effective method. Christopher John McCandless, the main character in Jon Krakauer's novel Into the Wild, is a man who abandons civilization in order to explore Alaska's wilderness. Chris decides to journey into the bush after coming to the realizaiton that the only way to discover his actual identity is by blazing his own trail and leaving behind all the amenities of modern life. Much like others, I have also related to this mindset in the past. As much as I enjoy recording videos of things and taking pictures, I still would rather take less pictures and witness plenty of memories with my own eyes. I was once on a seven kilometre hike through a forest, on my way to a waterfall in the summer. Although it was fairly level terrain and little hills, it was my first ever hike, and it was very challenging to me. When I finally arrived at the waterfall, I just sat there for a moment and relaxed, taking in nature, as opposed to pulling out my phone to take pictures right away. This was my first experience with real nature where I have not taken any pictures to prove I was there. Like Chris, I saw real peace and tranquility, when I took a moment to stop and take in nature, without recording or taking pictures of anything. Life is one long journey that is composed of many different experiences and adventures that lead up to a person becoming one with themselves. In Chris’ journey, he finds himself with a wealthy family and a healthy life. He is a law school graduate, but throws it away. One of them is through new experiences. Chris chooses to do it through new challenges. I have that same mindset to push myself and try new things. Much like Chris, I have gone through adventures and new experiences in which I have found greater parts of myself. I will continue to do so in the future. When I climb Mt. Washington in June, I am positive that I will discover parts of myself that I never knew existed. Thinking far into the future, life will remain the same. I will learn so many new things about what I am capable of doing through the experiences I put myself through. I plan to follow a similar path in life that Chris took. I will challenge myself and try new things, and come out stronger than when I started my
