So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future (Krakauer, pp. 56-57).

Why would he be so selfish to throw away his fortunate life? He did not take his life for granted, he just found his personal individual passion. An adventurous soul should not be contaminated by negligence to find his/her journey. Chris discovered his passion towards being nomadic; influenced others like Franz to change his future; and does not regret his dramatic life decision. Chris’s venturous spirit did not just spawn when he became older, it just increased as he matured. That is also when the controversy between his parents elevated. Some may agree that Chris’s relationship among his parents was the explanation to his rapid decision to travel. The book states Chris did not even tell his parents about his interest of leaving. It would honestly be a difficult task to tackle to totally change your life! Chris was just an independent man who was free to do whatever he desired. Franz was also floating in the same boat, he lived alone. Chris also did not have anything in his way of achieving his destination, and that is exactly what Chris took advantage of. He made it to the Alaskan Wilderness, even though his time there had a tragic ending he still made it. The consequence was Chris froze and starved to death, however the reward was he accomplished his expedition. You can tell something is important to a man if it is worth them dying for. For these reasons, Chris concluded in the book near to death that he had had a happy life and thanks the Lord. I believe every person should have a moment like that to realize how fortunate their lives have been even in the dreariest of
