Many people have different opinions of Chris McCandless. After Chris died in Alaska’s wilderness, Jon Krakauer wrote an article about Chris’s life. Some Alaskan natives wrote letters to Krakauer stating that Chris was an ignorant fool for believing he could live off the land without essential supplies. But they never knew what he actually desired. He just wanted to leave the superfluous society of material items. Most people don’t follow their dreams especially to the extent of Chris. And those who do are usually considered by society to be a success. The natives don’t think Chris was successful with his journey to Alaska, but he did exactly what he set out to do.

Celebrating helped keep her hopes up and focused her on surviving and succeeding. After Chris was poisoned, he wrote in majuscule in his journal, “DAY 100! MADE IT!” (Krakauer). Even when he knew he was going to die, Chris celebrated that he had succeeded. His optimism even shows when he had a feeling of malaise from his starvation. This optimism ameliorated his situation by making him happier. Therefore, he was able to die happy, which is a success on its own. As Chris is about to die he writes, “I HAVE HAD A HAPPY LIFE AND THANK THE LORD. GOODBYE AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL!” (Krakauer). Even when he is nearing his end, Chris finds success in his life. He finally realizes that he’s happy. Happiness is one of the most important successes one can achieve. At the end of the movie Chris took a picture of himself outside the bus. As he was dying, his happiness managed to still make him appear photogenic. This happiness was caused by the fact that he realized that he had succeeded in his life. Celebrating your past successes gives you more confidence which leads to more strength and will to survive. It also makes you happy, which is a success by
