The two major holidays of the year are Christmas and Thanksgiving, these holidays were established centuries ago. “In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies.” (History). “During the American Revolution, the Continental Congress designated one or more days of thanksgiving a year, and in 1789 George Washington issued the first Thanksgiving proclamation by the national government of the United States; in it, he called upon Americans to express their gratitude for the happy conclusion to the country’s war of independence and the successful ratification of the U.S. Constitution.”(History). On this day nationally there are reported shopping injuries and even the occasional Murder every year. On November twenty-eighth 2014, a twenty-five-year-old female and her nineteen-year-old male boyfriend beat, strangled, and set fire to an American eagle store manager in Dallas, Texas. They stole thousands for dollars’ worth of clothes under the black Friday deals. The Black Friday rush is known for shoppers fighting, stampeding, and shooting or stabbing others out of anger to grab the great savings. Thanksgiving Day is not nationally promoted for super saving deals on clothes, toys, cars, and any other thing that can be considered a gift. The third Thursday of November is free of the expectations of purchasing and giving gifts. Thanksgiving is not a time of sitting around the tree, opening presents and to some an unfortunate surprise, not receiving the gift most wanted.
