What’s worse an uncontrollable rich gang, or a somewhat controllable poor gang? The Greasers are vulnerable to getting arrested meaning that they are controllable in case they cause a menace. The Socs however can do whatever and however they please as they would usually be seen innocent. Let's look at what factors identify the Socs as a menace; some of them see themselves above everyone else, they engage in aggressive manner, their parents do not do anything to stop their behavior.

The Socs have an understanding that they are more valuable than anyone else. In the novel it is shown how many of the Socs consider that they will always be above the Greasers. One example, of these opinion is before the “rumble” Randy who is one of the Socs states that no matter who wins the Socs will still be Socs and Greasers will be Greasers, implying that their society level will remain the same. In one occurrence the Socs named Bob assaults a Greaser named Johnny, they had engaged and combat and left him with scars, and emotionally distressed. In another occurrence the Socs had attempted to assault Ponyboy putting a knife next to his throat but the rest of the Greasers came to aid and scared them of. This type of behavior had let to the death of Bob Sheldon, the Greasers, Johnny and Ponyboy were cornered in the park, Johnny was knocked out, and Ponyboy was being drowned by Bob, after Johnny had awaken and stabbed Bob.
