The article, “Of Primates and Personhood: Will According Rights and “Dignity” to Nonhuman Organisms Halt Research?” by Ed Yong is trying to convince the reader to see a different side to primates. The Great Ape Project set legal rights for chimpanzees, gorillas, bonobos, and orangutan. United Kingdom and New Zealand protect great apes from experimentation. For the Great Ape Project they are basically setting laws and higher standards for primates to me experimented on or held captive.
In chapter 21 of a long way gone, Ishmael Beah through the use of symbolism, demonstrates how in times of manipulation one may sacrifice everything for the greater good: “if you shoot me, your mother will die, and if you don’t, your father will die.” (p. 217 lines 25-26). This line symbolizes the monkey is an object of manipulation through the act of making innocent hunters decide between two great acts of evil. The Monkey also symbolizes the greater evil which is the military regime that controls Sierra Leone. The diction of this statement also suggests that evil in any form may use deception to overcome their opponents, and force them to weigh an impossible dilemma.
In the article, “What Monkeys Eat: A Few Thoughts About Pop Culture Writing” Linda Holmes is trying to explain that we should focus the study of pop culture from what we ought to watch, read, or listen to, to what we actually watch, read, or listen to. What we take in to entertain ourselves is what drives the conversations we have on a daily basis. “What monkeys eat” is referring to us as the monkeys, and what we eat to our forms of entertainment. The shows we watch an the celebrities we follow are all what “we eat.” These influential factors are what we mostly write about, instead of the more important topics such as, war or how the economy will look in the future.

Their tails, though not prehensile, are used primarily “as a kind of ‘balancing pole’ and also as a tool.” (Wikipedia) Meaning that they are able to move with agility and speed while maintaining their balance on small and large branches. I feel they attracted so many people because they were able to jump through the branches and use the ropes that are in their exhibit to help brachiate, using arms to swing from branch to branch, through the air and catch other branches to continue moving. Humans are awful, Only the human race is capable of taking a blank slate, let it sit through 12 years of education and at the end of it come out truly no better than where it began. Humans are innately flawed from their beginning. Humans are able to take a full grown loving person and deface and devalue them and make them meaningless. An example, Germans were willing to exterminate millions of Jews in part because Nazi ideology taught them to think of Jews as subhuman, as objects without the right to freedom, dignity, or even life itself.
Through history there has been evidence to help support the claim that climate change has influenced the evolution of primates. Scientific evidence has proven that during certain climate spikes such as the swamp age, apes in the given territories that encompassed Africa led a migration to the Asia and Europe territories. The same climate changes that was responsible for the creation of the Swiss Alpes and other phenomena, has been associated with the adaptation, extinction, and migration. As weather changed in certain areas, the land became more dry making it harder to obtain and hunt food. Climate change, in theory, led to the extinction of the Sivapithecids apes because of the inability that the species has to obtaining food.

Most of their movement includes them moving from one branch to the other. The reason why they climb fast from one tree to another is by the help of their tails. Howler monkeys have prehensile tails, or tails that can grip onto anything. According to National Zoo, ”Males measure 24 to 26 inches (60 to 65 centimeters) long with a 24 to 26 inch tail (60 to 65 centimeters).”
In the story “The Monkey’s Paw” the theme is don’t mess with fate and this story elements like character, setting, and plot all help contribute to the theme. The character’s emotions, reaction, and actions are a significant role in revealing the theme. The setting, though not realized as much actually shapes the story too. As normal, plot most definitely contributes to the theme. The character’s reaction contributes to the theme.
