Virne Beatrice “Jackie” Mitchell Gilbert was the first female professional baseball player to play in a game as a pitcher. She had a contact with the Chattanooga Lookouts on March 28, 1931. During the spring training season, the New York Yankees played the Lookouts in a game. Virne Mitchell was believed to have struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig during the game. Even though Virne only played one year as a member of the Lookouts, she continued to live on playing baseball.
James loved to read and play the flute, he even received a scholarship. Ruth was a mother of twelve so it was hard for her to dedicate her time to just one child, James craved for her attention and love. He loves to visit his older sister Jackie’s house, he even got kicked out of summer school three times in a row just to go over there. Also, he was a cautious person he knew what he was doing was wrong but he still did it anyways. Ruth was a Jew deep down inside but converted over to christianity right along with her kids.
Ruth May exhibits a peculiar character. She always pursues for acceptance and approval; however, she feels prevalent. This quote reflects and highlights this trait. She believes that she knows more than the others. The way that she tries to be interested about the occasions occurring in the Congo is likewise critical.
In continuation, George Herman Ruth would spend most of his time out of his household and school. In fact, he almost never attended school and frequently was found by truant officers who afterwards had taken him home where his father would beat him over and over. Young Ruth would not attend school due to the fact that his parents were always busy. Ruth endured through the punishment and ignored the admonition by developing an unacceptable behavior. At his young age, he would sip alcohol, chew tobacco, and occasionally was caught stealing making police visits more frequent.
Ruthy is eleven years old like me. She was born on January 1, 1852. Her mother’s name was Marry and her father’s name was Bobby. They loved her very much. They didn’t have a lot of money but Ruthy was happy anyway.
Other than the fact that the Dead family does go to church on Sundays, the religious aspects of her first name are more accurate to her full name (First Corinthians Dead) or nonexistent.
Ruth Handler “created the doll that became an American icon and a multibillion-dollar business.” Ruth Handler was born in 1916 in Colorado, into a family of Russian Jewish Immigrants. In 1938, she moved to California with her husband where she started a business making furniture. During World War II, they created the Mattel company along with another partner. Her husband made the furniture as Ruth sold it.

She grows old with the self-condemnation of staying with Nathan for as long as she did, for if she mustered up the courage to leave the Congo earlier, Ruth May would not have died. Ruth May’s plea for Orleanna to forgive herself, just as Ruth May has forgiven her, presents the possibility of repentance for anyone, no matter how great of consequence their mistakes are. Though she never passed the age of 6, Ruth May seems to have learned better than most the importance of finding strength from and learning from wrong-doings. Urging her mother to “Move on. Walk forward into the light”, Ruth may passes along her own moral reassessment to anyone whom will listen, telling the error in letting so-called sins weigh down ones self forever
She is very unaware of the cultural stereotypes she takes on, as well as the impact of the actions going on around her. Ruth May mainly talks about her life in the Congo with humorous innocence. Ruth May is the first of the other three daughters to make friends in the village; discovering the truth of white relations in the Congo, and about the native customs, religion, and culture not knowing that all of those traits of a person shift her identity. Before she dies Ruth May starts to recognize the Native ideologies, which shows the power of Bhabha’s hybrid identity. She begins to mix both cultures she knows together and form her own perspective.
Ruth is the perfect example of a person who sees race as being “ignorable”. In one of the chapters, it informs the reader about Ruth’s high school
The 1950's was a time of great change in the United States with many types of events and changes happening from then to now. Also having many different inventions created or "upgraded" from the original like the automobile progressing still. They had more highways built for transportation during war in case of bombs going off, so now we use those today for driving, moving, and transportation. With many military events happening you had the Cold War going on with others as well. One of others going on was the Korean War starting in the 50's.

According to Calpurnia, Helen Robinson is unable to find work due the heinousness of her husband’s crime. Calpurnia says, “Folks aren’t anxious to have anything to do with any of his family” (164). It can be deduced that it does not necessarily involve race as to why Helen is unable to find a job, but it is merely due to the severity of her husband’s crime.
