The Analysis of the Stranger, John Wilson in The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson Heroes in literary works were once referred to as the "rebel"; however, the rebel has been replaced by the "stranger" in recent literature. In Lois Simmie's The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson, the novel centers on the title character who is alienated, disaffected and an outsider. The author’s depiction of the central character of Wilson as a stranger engages the reader in a different way, by having the reader want to know more about this mysterious and striking figure.
He causes Christopher to act secretively, as he does not explain what was wrong in the situation. This happened when Christopher was inquiring about Wellington- his father responds by telling him to ‘Not go around sticking your ******* nose in other people’s business’ (82), but not fully elaborating on how so. This leaves Christopher to try testing a gray area, especially since he is autistic and will take everything in a literal manner.
Raising a child like Christopher is very difficult. Christopher often disappears in the middle of the night to go out for walks and quickly becomes overwhelmed in new environments. For the better well-being of Christopher, Ed tends to be very overprotective of him. An example of this is shown when Christopher wants to do detective work to find out who killed Wellington. This idea suggests that Christopher has to talk to strangers which he is not comfortable with.
Christopher has changed in his confidence to be independent throughout the book which makes him a dynamic character. Before he decided to go on his own to London, he has never been anywhere ‘apart from the shop at the end of the road (161).’ This shows that Christopher really has not had much independency and always rely on someone. He even said that the thought of going somewhere by himself is frightening which I can’t blame him for feeling. Also, Christopher decided to go around his neighborhood and converse with his neighbors when he tries to find who the murderer was.
As he kept reading he states how he no longer felt that the world was hostile killing, he knew it (p.451). This lead to another strong desire and hunger, which was for a new life. Eventually, he began to plan to go north because he was not satisfied with the life he was living (p.452). This book was one that demonstrates readers how much can be taken for granted, as this courageous boy decided to break the rules and look for answers. Many times, one can feel lost in a world full of so much chaos.

“Stranger in the Village” is an essay written by the famous African American author James Baldwin, in the story he details his life as an African American living in a small mountain village in Switzerland. Baldwin begins the essay by explaining how the residents were fascinated by his blackness because they had never seen a black man before. The village is four hours from Milan and three hours from Lausanne, but because it is in the mountains, it is extremely isolated. Only 600 people live in the village, and its only attraction is hot spring water. Baldwin spends two weeks there one summer and returns that winter to work in a place with no distractions.
This shows him thinking his way through the entire investigation. When Christopher finds the letter from his mom, he is tasked with another mystery. He thinks his way through certain difficulties to figure out his mom was alive and later finding out his dad killed Wellington. In conclusion, Christopher is a very dynamic character who develops significant IB and ATL traits as a result of his indirectly characterized character
Christopher’s view on both are very limited compared to others. He explains that life to him is very hard to understand no matter how long he thinks of it. When Christopher goes on the investigation of who killed Wellington his view on life and the world will change
