It can be argued that the Missouri Compromise not only put off the start of the Civil War, but was also a cause. Many contributing factors led up to the Civil War in the years following the passing after the Missouri Compromise. Years after the Missouri Compromise went into effect, Congress passed the Tariff Act of 1833, sometimes called the Compromise Tariff. This was proposed by Henry Clay, and called for the gradual reduction of tariffs, ending the Nullification Crisis. In 1846, United States’ President James Polk requested 2 million dollars to purchase land from Mexico following the Mexican-American War.
There were many events leading up to the revolutionary war but the Stamp Act and Sugar Act had its impact. These two acts are a part of what got the conflict started between Great Britain and America; The Sugar Act, was a law that imposed taxes on certain imports and the Stamp Act, is a law that levied new excise taxes. The colonist posed such strong opposition against the taxes the British government were implemented that it was

The southerners called it the Tariff of Abominations. According to the vote on the Tariff of 1816 in the House of Representative, there were more South representatives who voted against tariff than any other section did.(Document 7) The graph was intended to show people that the southerners did not like the tariff because South sold cotton and other raw materials without tariff, but they needed to buy products with tariff. Sectionalism became of greater importance in the economics and politics because as the result of the dissatisfaction of the south and unequally treatment by the tariff, sectionalism would eventually lead to the civil
When Congress issued tariffs on foreign goods, Southerners believed that Congress favored the North since this tariff would benefit them. John Randolph spoke of this issue, arguing that Congress was being unfair since the South was not benefiting from the actions of Congress at all while the North benefited (Doc A). As for political conflict, there was a clear case of factionalism and political rivalry in 1824 (Doc I). With these conflicts amongst the varying factions and political parties, the political tension and sectionalism within America continued to grow. Accusations and anger from the South further separated them from the North, which did not contribute “good feelings” to the country at
During the time of the civil war , the idea of creating a faster form of transportation arose. The amount of time, manufacturing, and hard work that went into the making of the railroad was extraordinary. The railroad invention did, however, have a big effect on the world today. The Transcontinental Railroad was an important invention and impacted the civil war.
Between 1876 and 1896 Congress had to deal with four major issues, along with other issues. The four major issues included tariffs, currency, civil service, and government regulation of railroads. While dealing with these issues they had to put into consideration their needs, the peoples needs, and what makes a healthy government. The issue of tariffs made Congress decide wether to raise or lower tariffs. The two parties, Democrats and Republicans, did not see eye to eye on this issue.
The Confederate States attempted to legislate against slave insurrection, which led into the Civil War. The Civil War was between the Confederate States and the Union States. During the Civil War, there were many fears because of the insurrection, affects toward the industries, affects toward food production and distribution, and there were many demands that needed to be met, such as men being drafted, and food being produced. The Emancipation Proclamation of 1862 granted freedom to the slaves in the Confederate States if the States did not return to the Union. Freedom would also only come to the slaves if the Union won the war.
The Mexican-American didn’t make the civil war inevitable because the main issue was about slavery. During that time, the American was split into two groups, the south was pro-slavery and the north were anti-slavery, and should the new territories should be a free state or a slave state. There were events that set in motions of the civil war. There were events that led to the civil war, that cause problems in the United States. The first event was of course the Mexican-American war.
Economic Change in America Change is relevant within every time period, however, very substantial changes took place in the Americas following the War of 1812. Future success of the American society was to be dictated by the support the federal government supplied to domestic manufacturing and infrastructure to make drastic improvements economically. The imposition of high tariffs, advancements in transportation and the development of the cotton gin are among the most important changes made in the United States during this time.
The Civil War was a turning point in American history by abolishing slavery, reuniting the North and South and bringing about the Road to Redemption period. In the years leading up to the Civil War relations between the North and South became strained. With the invention of the cotton gin, the direction of the differing economies grew. The North became more industrialized with the textile mills, while the South became dependent on the cotton trade, which was very labor intensive. Because of this the South relied on slave labor, while the Northerners were leaving the farms for the factories.
The Civil War, fought from 1861 to 1865, was known to be one of the most deadly wars. The destruction of the war caused many deaths and also many families to be torn apart. Several people believe that the Civil war could have been avoided and countless lives could have been saved. However, I believe that the Civil War was inevitable because of the different beliefs between the North and the South over economics and slavery. The Civil war was bound to happen because of the dissimilarities between north and south over economics.
This including the electing of Abraham Lincoln made the southern states feel like they were going to lose control of the political choices in the southern territories, which would have lead to them not having control over their area in general (American Civil War History). These events are all effects where the underlying problem was the conflict of slavery that was between the north and south states. Showing how much of a factor it was during the civil war era. Making it one of the largest causes of why the civil war broke
As many states refused acknowledge these amendments, I believe on of the most influential events was the enforcement of the Act of 1870. As discussed, this act itself gave the congress more power to punish the confederate states who didn't follow it, forcing most states to oblige. With this came some failures still prevalent today like the Klu Klux Klan, as we discussed today have become more racially motivated than politically before. However, there are many positive effects that are often overlooked. The administration inched us closer to a stronger union, more political rights, and diversified economy.
