Literary Essay Suspense The authors of the two texts “The Tell Tale Heart” and Don't Look Behind You effectively created suspense though the use of dramatic elements. In “The Tell Tale Heart” and Don't look Behind You the two authors used imagery to create suspense for the readers. In both stories the authors also incorporated the factor of setting to create suspense for the reader so they can wonder and think what will happen next. Dialog all suspenseful books have it so it create suspense though the characters actions, word, or phrases. Therefore Suspense is created because of imagery, dialog, and characters actions in Don't Look Behind You and “The Tell Tale Heart”. In “The Tell Tale Heart” is said “True! Nervous very-very dreadfully nervous I had been I am”. The reader is able to visualize what's going though his head and what is happening at that exact moment. Now the reader are able to wonder is he going mad? Will he go mad because of that eye he has been so dreadful about? In Don't Look Behind You the author wrote “How were you able to find the house, We hardly found it ourselves” Apirl said to the Vamp. When the two charters were exchanging thoughts on how he was able to find them their. So when they were asking questions to the man the reader is able to picture them standing there in the pouring rain trying to figure out how he got their. When the characters were talking Apirl was trying to get away from the man just trying to squirm away. In Don't Look Behind You Vamp had “The muzzle was pressed against the window” “UNLOCK that door now get out of the car”. The reader is able to picture vamp holding the gun to the window right to her head. When he said to unlock that door now you can only think what what will happen after those words, Will he kill her? The characters dialog, and actions in both stories made the suspense factor
