Many people often forewarn us to stay away from insane or mentally unstable people because their unpredictable actions might cause us harm but this isn 't necessarily true. People who are in their full senses and are mentally stable to make wise decisions, often do things that even insane people would never imagine of doing. In the short story “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe, it is clearly demonstrated how the protagonist in the story executed a well-planned murder in a perfectly stable mental state. In fact, he planned it out a week before and for that whole week, he observed the old man every night while he was asleep. Not only that, he also very cautiously and spotlessly murdered and hid his dead body leaving behind no trace of his crime.
The Most Evil Villain out of the following stories: The Black Cat, The Tell- tale Heart, and The Landlady, is none other than than The Landlady herself. The Landlady is the most evil villain because she lures young men into a comfortable environment, poisons them, and stuffs them like she is a professional taxidermist. What makes The Landlady most evil is that, her story isn’t written by her point of view, so you are lead to believe that she is just a lonely old lady, you don't know the thoughts going through her head, you don't know why she does what she does. They are spooky for the reason that, even though the landlady doesn’t come out with it, she is telling him that she has killed them and we know that she has stuffed them. The words that he uses for her to tell him this are creepy because she is being unquestionably nice. For example, how she says my dear boy.
One in every 125 people are estimated to be psychopaths with a mental illness of some kind. The narrator from The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe is about a killer with a mental illness who ends up growing hatred for an old man’s evil eye. His hate for that evil eye eventually leads him to killing the old man. The narrator from Strawberry Spring by Stephen King is also a killer with a mental illness and terrorizes a college campus. He does this by murdering many college girls without leaving any traces behind.
Stories from the horror genre leave little information to the imagination. Although, why do people believe this about most stories. Well authors use the horror genre elements to surprise, excite, and give a reader many emotions while reading.
The authors of the two texts “The Tell Tale Heart” and Deep and Dark and Dangerous effectively created suspense through the use of dramatic elements. The two texts use imagery to create suspense. Descriptions of characters fears and anxiety creates suspense in the two texts. Dialogue creates suspense in “The Tell Tale Heart” and Deep and Dark and Dangerous. Therefore “The Tell Tale Heart” and Deep and Dark and Dangerous both use the elements successfully to create suspense throughout the stories.
The man accused of murder has confessed to the crime and led the police straight to the mutilated body of his victim. On the night of murder, the narrator killed the old man by suppressing him with a bed and suffocating him to death. He was vexed by the old man’s “evil eye” which motivated the narrator to murder the old man. In spite of the evidence proving that the murderer is insane, he is clearly sane and should be accused guilty. Primarily, the murderer explained the process of murder, he was describing all the little details that an insane person would not have remembered.
The Tell Tale Heart During life, it’s inevitable that there will be some things that bother us. Whether it be a mild annoyance or a pure frustration over something, it brings discomfort that at some point, we find a way to get rid of it from our lives. In“The Tell Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe, it is unknown when this story takes place in, or even much about what the characters do in their daily lives. However, what it mainly focuses on is the narrator displaying an usual amount effort and displeasure toward an old man, specifically his eye.
He refers to himself as Death, implying he has all knowledge and power over the old man. The reader becomes filled with dread as the man patiently waits to kill. The imagery portrayed in “The Tell-tale Heart” increases the demented tone that the narrator projects as the main character waits to strangle the old man. Every night, for a week, the murderer would “look in” upon the victim as he slept.
The last villain is the Queen of Hearts from the movie Alice in Wonderland. What made the queen of hearts evil was because she was always the best and favorite from her parents and she would get jealous. The Queen of Hearts loves to say “Off with their heads”. That means she kills many people for the reason the she just does not like them. The Queen of Hearts her goal is to keep Wonderland under her control.
“I've heard many things in the heaven and in the earth. I've heard many things in hell”(Poe). In the story The tell tale heart, a man ends up killing his old man over his “Vulture eye”. He loved the old man. But his “evil eye” vexed him and he decided to take his life.
The Tell-Tale Heart is a story about an insane narrator claiming to his sanity after murdering an old man out of anxiety and panic. Many believe the evidence points to the narrator being a calculated killer. After reviewing the symptoms of the narrator I believe him to be a man plagued with anxiety issues and panic attacks. First of all, the only reason the narrator had for such crime was of his eye, the eye of a vulture, nothing else. Not for his gold, property, or vengeance just his eye.
In the, Tell-tale Heart, Poe’s central ideas of madness and obsession are supported by his use of point-of-view, repetition, and punctuation. Poe’s use of a first- person point of view helps the readers understand the central idea of madness. The narrator states, “How then, am I mad? ... observe how healthily-how calmly I can tell you the whole story”. By allowing the readers into the narrators mind, they can clearly notice that the narrator is insane and unstable.
There are times in life where people do commit a small mistake, or a huge crime, but what really matters is if one will listen to their conscience. In “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe, the main character lives with an old man who has an eye that “resembled that of a vulture--a pale blue eye, with a film over it.” The story revolves around the main character’s obsession over the eye, and how he got rid of it-- by murdering the old man. Towards the end of the story, the young man confesses to the police about his insane stunt after they searched his house. In “The Tell-Tale Heart,” Edgar Allan Poe focused on having the reader know more than the secondary character, using description, and using a first-person narrator, to build suspense.
Rationale: For this task, I created a diary because I think that this style of writing would be an extremely effective way to show another major character’s emotions and ideas, as it can be written from a first person perspective, giving a huge amount of insight. I based my task on a short story by Edgar Allen Poe, titled “The Tell-Tale Heart.” I chose this piece as it gives the opportunity to be very creative in my writing, but also introduces various constraints, such as writing in a similar style to Poe, and trying to avoid any plot holes. This task specifically relates to part 4 of the language and literature course, being; literature, as the stimulus text is a piece of literature, as is my piece of writing.
