Death can Crumble you, or it can Inspire You
In life, many people crumble in the face of death. They give up on life or, they get inspired and keep pushing. In the book Outsiders, the author shows us that people react to the face of death in different ways. In the book Outsiders, the author shows us who thrives and who crumbles. This text shows us that death changes people.
One way that the text shows that death changes people is by making people stronger. One example of this is when Ponyboy’s parents died, Darry became more responsible because he knew that he had to take care of Pony and Soda or else they would be put in a boy’s home. One example of this is when Bob the Soc died, Randy, his friend, changed by realizing that fighting doesn’t help you, it makes things worse. He realizes that when they were drowning Ponyboy, that wouldn’t help him. At the end of the fight, it only brought him sadness because his best friend died. He changes and decides not to take place in the rumble. “And tonight… people get hurt in rumbles, maybe even killed. I’m sick of it because it doesn’t do any good.” This shows that Randy knows that the rumble won’t do any good because in the end, Greasers will still be at the bottom and Socs at the top. This relates to death changes perspectives because Randy knows that fighting didn’t bring the Socs anywhere, only sadness when his best friend Bob dies in a fight. Another example that death changes perspectives is when Ponyboy also realized that fighting won’t do you any good. He realizes that fighting won’t do any good because when Johnny and Pony fought the Socs and killed one of them, it ended up with them running away and hiding which changed their lives. Johnny also says, “Useless... fighting's no good...." He said this after the rumble when Pony and Dally told him that they beat the Socs.
