Power. Everyone has some of it. It’s real. Real fickle. Just in different ways. It changes its mind a lot. Firemen. They have power to do good, they protect and serve their community, which is amazing with all the risk they make. But, if a fireman does not protect and save their community, along with who’s in it that's bad power, cruel even. I don’t think anyone wants bad power. Right? Sharon M. Draper’s Stella by Starlight is about some people think power is good, and others think power is bad. But I think power can be both. Stella by starlight tells a story about a girl named Stella. The problem is her and her family are in trouble, the Ku Klux Klan are back. The Klan despise african american people, which including stella and her family. …show more content…

They know sometimes groups can have an advantage over power.While Stella and her friends are in the candy shop the white kids come in and ignore them while being a bit disrespectful. Even though they're just kids of all ages going into one little school room they can learn. Then when they get to school Mrs.Grayson, the schoolroom teacher, gets their attention and she has something important to say. Mrs.G reminds them to stay in groups wherever they go, and if they see something that looks out-of-place they should just run for their lives. She uses her power wisely to help the kids in the neighborhood safe. No wonder when Jojo raises his hand he asks if the klan would hurt children, he was worried. He has the power to be very worried about him and his neighborhood. Who knows what the Klan would do if they found him or any other black person. With the power Mrs.G has she gives them an unsteady answer when she tells her class to not take any chances. She even tries to change the subject! She decides to start working on the annual Christmas Pageant, which is weeks away! I think it was to protect them and distract
