Evicted Discussion Three In the third reading of Evicted, the book continues to tell the stories on both the north and south side of Milwaukee. On the south side in the trailer park, we continue to read about Larraine and her struggle to keep a roof over her head. I still struggle to sympathise with Larrine because of how careless she is with her money. Later in the chapter, we learned that she spent her entire month's allowance of food stamps on lobster, and continued to have cable TV. Larraine wanted to live a certain lifestyle, even if she had to use all her food stamps in one trip. It seemed unfair to me that she was kicked out of Crystal’s apartment because Crystal continued to call the police about a domestic violence happening upstairs. I was disgusted when I read that in cases of domestic violence, many women would rather stay quiet for fear of eviction, than call the police. She doesn't care about me.” I felt that this comment was extremely self centered and really displayed Sherrena’s true colors. I think Arleen has a right to only care about her kids, due to everything that she has been through. My heart broke for Arleen when she finally found a landlord that would rent to her, and a few days before she moved in, the landlord rented it to someone else. Another interesting dynamic during this reading was the relationship between Arleen and Crystal. I thought it was very telling that they were friends when there were no problems in the apartment, but when the food ran short no one got along. When reading that tenants were discriminated against for having kids, I was disappointed but not surprised. One lesson that Arleen taught her boys was don’t love something that they could not have, and I think this was hard for the
