John Wayne Gacy, Aileen Wuornos, Richard Ramirez and are all widely known notorious serial killers who in common, share the feeling of abandonment, neglect, and abuse during their adolescence years. Studies often show a traumatic experience can lead to mishap in one’s psychological and physical behavior which can cause anxiety, alcohol and drug use, low self-esteem, withdrawn, dissociation, difficulty with making and maintaining relationships, experiences flashbacks, hypervigilant, self-harm, and criminal activity. Since these killers had to endure a troublesome childhood, they were destined to become criminal masterminds. John Wayne Gacy was a U.S. serial killer who was found guilty of killing thirty-three boys and young men. He had an abusive childhood and struggled with his sexuality. He was born in Chicago, Illinois and was the son of Danish and Polish parents. His father was a drunk and would beat his children and wife with a razor strap if they were perceived to misbehave. Witnessing this daily behavior will have the child believe pain and abuse is the correct way to handle people in society. During her childhood, she was abused sexually by her father, grandfather, or any male who came into her life. She was eventually thrown out of her house and had to make a living being a sex worker on Florida highways. Her killings are a clear representation of how a tortuous past can effect so much damage on a person mental and physical behavior.
