There were 3 major branches of early Christianity that contained different perspectives with theology and traditions; these branches were Oriental Orthodoxy, Eastern Orthodox Church, and Protestantism. The Protestant Reformation, also known as the 'religious revolution', occurred during the 16th century in the Western Church. The schism in the Western Christianity was given the heads up by a great leader, Martin Luther (1483-1546), and eventually carried on by John Calvin and other European reformers. The initial goal was to begin reforming any beliefs and practices within the Roman Catholic Church.
