“The Tide Rises the Tide Falls”: Life Comes and Goes Maggie wrote her poetry explication on the poem, “The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. In her explication, the main point that she was trying to get across to the reader was that the specific line in the poem, “The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls” serves many different meanings. That specific line brings back the main tones that Maggie describes as calmness, consistency, and acceptance. The line also makes the poem flow and really sets the mood for the audience. As I said in the first paragraph, Maggie mentions that the tone of acceptance is present in the poem, but does not explain how she knows are why she thinks it is. I agree with her that one of the tones in the poem is acceptance, but she must elaborate on it. If I were Maggie, I would write something similar to this.
One of the tones in this poem, “The Tide Rises the Tide Falls” is acceptance. A tone of acceptance is portrayed by the speaker because the story is about how life comes and go. For example, the speaker uses a tone of acceptance when he or she says “The Tide Rises the Tide Falls” (Longfellow 1,5,10,15). The wave crashes represents either birth or the start of something in life. Then when the waves travel back out to the sea, it represents death or the end of something in existence. The speaker is trying to persuade the audience to accept when something comes to the end or dies.
