The Trouble with Keeping Secrets Introductory Everyone has kept a secret at one time or another. Reasons for keeping secrets can range from wanting to protect someone else’s feelings to wanting to protect ourselves from trouble. Although hiding the truth can seem to be the easy way out of a bad situation, keeping secrets can also cause a lot of trouble. In Secrets in the Shadows, Roylin Bailey learns from his experience with Korie Archer, Tuttle, and Cooper Hodden that keeping secrets is not always a good idea. One experience that teaches Roylin that keeping secrets can have negative results is his relationship with Korie Archer. On his first day returning back to school, he saw this pretty new girl. Her name was Korie Archer and he went up to her and introduced himself to her. He walked her to her next class and said, “you and I are both in the same lunch period”. Korie told Roylin about a necklace at a jewelry store that she’d really liked. Roylin had stolen some money from an old friend named Mr. Miller. Roylin stole money from Mr. Miller and Tuttle saw it. Tuttle told Roylin Mr. Miller died from a heart attack. Tuttle said, Mr. Miller woke up and saw that a lot of his money was gone and had a heart attack, and that he seen Roylin sneak into Mr. Miller’s apartment and he thought Roylin only took a couple of dollars but Mr. Miller cried out to Tuttle and was clutching at his chest about the missing money. Tuttle said they could just say Mr. Miller moved away and they would just take his body downstairs and let it be the end of it.
