Deception is the act of hiding the truth from someone to get an advantage. In the novel, The Wooing Of Beppo Tate by C. Everard Palmer, deception is heavily portrayed by Teppy in many ways. The novel is about an adopted boy, Beppo Tate, trying to adjust to his new life and new home. As Beppo tries to adjust, he meets deceptive people such as Teppy. Teppy is a middle aged man with a limp who is very lazy and unorganised. Deception is shown when Teppy lies to Beppo about what he is eating, when Teppy sneaks around and milks the cow, and when Teppy fakes being Old Man Tate’s friend.
Teppy, a very deceptive person, lies to Beppo and tells him that he is eating snake meat when in reality he is eating a different type of meat. Beppo goes over to Teppy’s house to ask him about his neighbour, Daphne. As Beppo got closer he noticed how desolate Teppy’s house is. As Beppo got closer to the verandah Teppy asked who was at the door with a full mouth. When Teppy offers his food to Beppo, he tells him that it is snake meat. This shows deception because he says he was eating snake meat when he was not. Teppy says this because he does not want to share whatever he is eating. He knew that Beppo would not want to eat snake meat.

This shows that Teppy is a deceptive character because Teppy was the one sneaking around to milk Mabel. He kicks Mabel to the ground and starts to milk her. Teppy knows that if he milks Mabel before Beppo, she will produce the amount of milk she is supposed to. Teppy then proceeds to blame it on Beppo to prove that he cannot milk a
