The World May Never Know... Edgar Allen Poe is the most unknown famous death out there. People believe he died from alcohol poisonng. Others believe he contracted rabies and went mad. There are many more conspiracies aswell. I believe we will never truly know what happened. We won’t be able to capture his reason to die. For all we know he could of been drugged. Maybe, even nothing happened and he faked his death. I honestly believe we will never know.
In the biography “Poe’s Final Days” they stress how his state of being made it difficult to know what he died from. He showed esymptoms of rabies but also acted severely drunk. The biography said Poe may have been “ill from exposure”. The day he was found he was dressed like a complete lunatic. His clothes weren’t his clothes, they were soaking wet from the rain and he seemed delirious. This is saying he probably even died from hypothermia; exposure to the cold weather …show more content…

Michael Benitez said “Poe refused alcohol and could drink water only with great difficulty” (187). This is basically stating that Poe was hydrophiliac, he couldn’t drink water and that’s a2 side effect of rabies. The article also says that rabies is a swift and brutal killer; Poe died within three days of being discovered. A letter was made, “If Only Poe Had Succeeded…”, going against the article saying Poe died from alcohol. It said that Poe has written letters to his relatives saying he would try and stop the drinking. The letter pointed out how he had no marks or bites from an animal and that he was found in an alcoholic stupor. Another was made from the author of the news article. He pointed out how 25% of the 33 reports of rabies cases did not remember any animal. And even if there was a bite, rabies has an incubation period of one year. Meaning by the time the injury healed the signs still might not even exist. As you can see, we have no true reason behind Poe’s death. It will stay a
