“The World on the Turtle’s Back” is the Iroquois story of creation. “Odin and Ymir” is the Norse story of creation. Even though both stories originated in different places, they have some similar aspects. The stories also have many differing views on how things came to be. “The World on the Turtle’s Back” is about two twin brothers. The right-handed twin, who tells the truth and always does what’s right, and the left-handed twin, who lies, and always does what’s bad. The right-handed twin created what he thought were good animals. The left-handed twin created animals to kill the good animals. It came down to the right-handed twin dueling the left-handed twin. In both of the stories the good people overcame the bad people. Also both of the stories start out with a man and a woman. There is also a correlation with there being a big battle In both of the stories. There are also many things that differ like how in “Odin and Ymir” many gods had a role in shaping the world, but in “The World on the Turtle’s Back” there are only a couple. In “The World on the Turtle’s Back” the villain made some things, but in “Odin and Ymir” the villain didn’t make anything. In “The World on the Turtles Back,” man was made of clay, but in “Odin and Ymir” man was made from two things, logs and a cow licking on rime ice. In conclusion, “The World on the Turtle’s Back” and “Odin and Ymir” are wildly different.
