I thought it was a powerful movie for women. What makes Thelma and Louise unique is that it involved two women as the main characters. Previously, these types of movies were made with two men “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” or a man and woman with “Bonnie and Clyde”. Thelma and Louise asserted control over their lives and bodies. Instead of fighting back at the end as most men in movies are shown to do, Thelma and Louise went out on their own way and decided not to be punished for their crimes. For the record, most bad guys in those movies are killed by the good guys. Thelma and Louise didn’t go out that way and because of that, it makes the movie powerful and unique and it allows women all over to at least live through them for a little bit. Louise may have been raped before and she didn’t want to go to the police because the police didn’t believe her when she attempted to go the police. Thelma was all over Harlan, dancing and kissing. Louise thinks people would assume that Thelma didn’t get raped and that she have wanted to engage in sexual intercourse with Harlan. However, when the investigator is questioning the bartender/waitress, she clearly says that she is surprised that this didn’t happen sooner. This tells me that he was a local man that visited a bar and that he has done this many times before. This was obviously acceptable behavior for a man to do this. It’s obvious that it was acceptable because women hardly report attempted rapes or rape cases. Because of it being acceptable, Harlan continued to do what he was attempting to do to Thelma. If Thelma and Louise did go to the police, with the bartender/waitress, I bet there were more people that knew how Harlan was. I believe not going to the police was a
