Under the laws of the State of Berea College, Rebekah Ponder and Elshaday Yilma are likely to be found not guilty by a jury of a form of criminal homicide and not guilty of a form of robbery. In this criminal case activity, I was placed in defense team 2 that defense Elshaday Yilma, however that didn’t determined my thought. From the evidence from the site, claim of witness, and circumstances, I can conclude that both of girls are not guilty of high class felony. First of all, there are no definite evidence show that Ponder shoot the gun at Walter White intentionally. Furthermore, there are no clear evidence that Ponder is initial aggressor.
Essay 1 In “There is No Unmarked Women”, Deborah Tannen explains how women are forcibly “marked” no matter what. During a small work conference, Tannen observes many women’s appearance. She looks at their haircuts, clothing and the makeup they wear. She feels the women are all “Marked”, while men wear nothing to stand out.
The book Poisonwood Bible, written by Barbara Kingsolver, is about gender roles put on men and women and the oppression of women, in the Congo and in the American culture. This is shown throughout the book when Reverend Nathan Price believed women had to be conservative, and if they were not, God would punish them. Women and young girls do most of the work while men and boys can hunt and play. Both the Congolese and the American culture believe women do not deserve and education. From the time the Price family had landed in the Congo, Nathan Price had portrayed that the Congolese were sinning and needed to be converted.
“Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury imputes many powerful yet relevant messages. One of those being the topic of abortion. In Bradbury’s world the value of human life is valued so little while in our world it is valued so greatly. “Fahrenheit 451” should continue to be taught in schools because of the relevant topic of abortion, in Fahrenheit life isn’t valued as it should be, the case of Roe vs. Wade is a very relevant subject in our world, and many people in Fahrenheit don’t want children so they take for granted their abortion rights.
Patrick Lee and Robert George assert that abortion is objectively immoral. One of Lee and George’s main reason for coming to this conclusion is that human embryos are living human beings. This essentially validates that abortion is indeed the process of killing a human. Another main point said by the two is a rebuttal to a common argument used in favor of abortion, which states that a potential mother has full parental responsibilities only if she has voluntarily assumed them. The rebuttal to this was that the potential mother does indeed have special responsibilities to raise the child.
Often times we carry much burden on us, and doubt that we could have any purpose because of those burdens that we carry. In choosing three specific pieces of writing, the themes shared many similarities among them. Tim O’Brien’s, “The Things They Carried” is a short story about the very sentimental, physical and emotional possessions that the different soldiers carry within the story. McKay’s, “If We Must Die” speaks to the reader in such a way that conveys the idea of if they should die; it should be with honor and reason. Langston Hughes’, “I too, Sing America” gives no mention of death.
One of the most interesting readings from our textbook this semester for me was Rayna Rapp’s “XYLO”. I think one of the main reasons I found it so moving was that where I am from, abortion is a rather taboo topic, that is not widely talked about in public. I do not personally know anyone who has had an abortion, so most of my ideas about abortion were from media and television/movies. Before reading this story, I had only really equated abortion with females who did not want/or could not care for a child at that point in their life. But XYLO proved to be a much deeper story, it showed her why she made the painful decision she did, and challenged my beliefs about abortion.
In reflection to the readings, there are many arguments that are for or against abortion. Is abortion ever justified? In feminism point of view, Susan Sherwin believes, yes, abortion is justified because it focuses on woman’s right to abortion in a liberal aspect. She also believes that woman’s right that pregnant woman are the best judge when to considering to abort the fetus. That means, the autonomy is shifted to the woman.

Abortions have been around ancient times. However the right for women to choose whether not she wanted to have an abortion has not. Before the 1880’s abortion was legal in the United States. After that most states would only allow it to save the mother’s life.
Fortunately, there are other methods to having kids, such as adoption. II. Thesis
In Kate Chopin’s Desiree’s Baby, an adopted girl named Desiree falls in love, marries into a wealthy family, and ends up having a child seeming to contain African descent. She is scorned for this from her once loving, now hateful husband, and is basically forced to leave, her child along with her. At the end of the story, Desiree’s husband, Armand, learns through a letter from his mother to his father that he is the one that actually bears the African descent. Desiree was only blamed for this because of the fact that she was adopted and did not know who she belonged to. It was not even considered that Armand had African blood because he came from a respected family.
Everyone is entitled to choose their own lifestyle, whether they want to have a child or not. Some females who seek to have children find it easy, although some are unfortunate. There are numerous of reasonings, such as being too old to be pregnant, damage to the Fallopian tube or uterus and cancer radiation or chemotherapy. As our generation goes on, many discoveries revolving biology is produced and one of it is the In Vitro Fertilization or “IVF”. It is the procedure of fertilization where they save sperm sample, take an egg from the women and physically combining it in a laboratory dish where the egg and the sperm is now called an embryo.
