Theme for lord of the flies In the book “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding The theme is: The power of the things that happen around you is in your hands. During the book there are many different times where both Jack and Ralph made poor decisions when they had the power to make those decisions and they affected everyone. For example, They both wanted to do the fire at the beginning and they lost one of the littleuns. Going straight into the book we come into a plane crash where there are only kids left. One of the first things mentioned in the book is “Aren’t there any grownups at all?” and “No grownups!”on page 7 and 8. This shows that starting off they were not very responsible in thinking on how to get off of the island. Later into the beginning of the book after everyone is brought together they decide they are going to go to the top of the mountain where they start a fire for food, heat, light, and smoke to signal a ship. On their way up the mountain, Piggy remarks on page 52 “Like kids!”, “Acting like a crowd of kids!”. Later in The chapter after they started the fire a little kid went missing because they were not paying attention to the important stuff and they were to the fun stuff. It gets to the point where before Simon dies he starts to hallucinate seeing the pig talk as the lord of the flies after the hunter put the pig head on the stick as an offering to the beast. In a hallucination the pigs hard told Simon, “Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill!”. This can show that the hunters or the other boys had the chance to not only scare the other boys but also harm them as they later killed Simon as he was coming out of the forest thinking he was the beast.
