Spoken by King Claudius in act 3 scene 3 he is expressing his remorse over his murder of his brother. During this soliloquy, he is kneeling and praying for forgiveness as Hamlet looks on from afar unknown to the King. We hear the King explain his remorse for his crimes that were just outed during the production of the play that Hamlet put togeather. He longs to ask for forgiveness but says that he does not want to give up what he gained by committing the murder. In this passage, we get an understanding of the theme of deception. All throughout Hamlet the characters hide and spy on each other leaving no one, to be honest with each other and have a total lack of trust. This is the first time that we see the true feeling of Claudius and his desperation
